DENTON, Texas – The UNT Track & Field program begins its 2023-24 indoor season at the Leonard Memorial Hilton Invite at Yeoman Fieldhouse in Houston, Texas Friday.
North Texas is entering its second season under the leadership of Doug Marshall. Joining the Mean Green in Houston are Rice, SMU, Houston, Texas State, Texas Southern, Minnesota, Sam Houston, Lamar, Houston Christian and Fort Scott CC.
"I'm very excited for this weekend," Marshall said. "I think it's a great opportunity to open up against some great competition. This whole week the energy has been great from our coaches and athletes.
A total of 52 UNT student-athletes are registered to compete in the event, including 30 members of the women's team and 22 men. While UNT has its fair share of veterans on the roster, most notably KeAyla Dove, 20 newcomers will be making their first collegiate appearances in track and field this weekend."
Dove, the 2023 CUSA Outdoor champion and second-team All-American in the shot put, returns for her second season at North Texas. She currently holds the women's indoor shot put record for North Texas after throwing 58-3.75 at the CUSA Championships last season.
Friday's meet will begin with field events at 9 a.m. CT led by high jump and the weight throw. Running events will begin at noon with the 60-meter dash semifinals and conclude Friday evening with the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays. The meet will be streamed on uhcougars.com/watch and live results will be provided by Flash Results.
