DesiRay Kernal Earns Final AAC Player of the Week Award

DENTON, Texas – UNT's DesiRay Kernal was named the American Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the final week of the season, the conference announced Thursday.
Kernal posted 25 points and 10 rebounds in the Mean Green's win over Memphis that gave them a share of their first conference title since 1986. It was the sixth consecutive double double for Kernal and fourth in-a-row with more than 20 points.
This is the third AAC Player of the Week honor for Kernal this season, which is tied with Tulsa's Temira Poindexter for most in the conference. She was also a member of the weekly honor roll six times, bringing her season total to nine weekly AAC awards, also tied for the most in the conference with ECU's Danae McNeal.
UNT is set to begin postseason play Monday, March 11 as the No. 2 seed at the American Athletic Conference Championship. The Mean Green will play the winner of No. 7 UAB and No. 10 Rice Monday at 6 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
