BOSTON - UNT senior KeAyla Dove earned Second Team All-America honors in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Saturday after falling just short of making the nine-person final and finishing 11th in the preliminaries.
Dove's best attempt of the day was 16.48 meters, which was 8.25 inches short of meeting the cutoff to qualify for the final and put her in 11th place in the 16-person field. Her first of three attempts went 16.13 meters, and she fouled on her second attempt. Dove qualified for the meet by setting a new personal best and a new AAC record of 18.24 meters at the conference championship.
This marked Dove's third straight appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships and her third All-America honor, with the first coming after her fifth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor meet in 2022 while she was at Sam Houston State. She also earned 2023 NCAA Outdoor All-America honors after joining the Mean Green.
Dove is UNT's first indoor All-American since 2006, when Brandi Stanfield finished 11th in the triple jump. She is just the second person in program history to have multiple NCAA All-American honors, joining Steven White, who earned the honor in the 400-meter hurdles in both the 2012 and 2013 outdoor seasons.
