BERMUDA RUN, N.C. - After a record-setting round on Tuesday put the UNT women's golf team in prime contention to advance past the NCAA Regional for the first time in program history, the Mean Green fell back in Wednesday's final round to finish in seventh place and saw their season come to an end while still having the best NCAA Regional finish in program history by a wide margin.
UNT shot a final-round 304 after Tuesday's program benchmark of 281 to finish two spots out of qualifying for the NCAA Championship next week.
The Mean Green were led on the final day by a pair of seniors, as Emilie Ricaud had the team's best round of the day with a 1-over 73, followed by fellow senior Ellie Roth's 2-over 74. Roth was the top finisher for the tournament, as she finished her final collegiate event at 2-under par in a tie for 15th place.
"Today did not produce the results we wanted but we certainly gained respect this week," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Overall, we had a great year and broke more records. We appreciate what Emilie and Ellie have given to this program. I wish them all the best moving forward."
The Mean Green, who entered the event ranked 51st nationally, did score victories over a pair of teams ranked higher than them, as they topped No. 34 South Florida and No. 27 UCF and ended the year with a season team stroke average of 289.04 to break the program record set last year (289.60).
