DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team continues to bring in accolades following its record-breaking season, led by Jason Burton being named the Division I Women's Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC).
The TABC released its awards for the 2023-24 season in the state of Texas that were voted on by the organization's board members. North Texas collected three of the four awards in the Division I category.
Along with Burton, Britney Brown was named the Women's Assistant Coach of the Year and Jackson Davis was tabbed the Women's Student Assistant of the Year.
Brown worked primarily with the Mean Green guards in her first season in Denton. One of the nation's most respected assistants, Brown coached Dyani Robinson to earning the American Athletic Conference Sixth Player of the Year award. In addition, Brown played a large role in scouting opponents, athlete development and helped lay the foundation for the culture of UNT women's basketball in the first year of the Burton era.
Davis, a junior at UNT is in his second year assisting with the Mean Green. He holds numerous roles within the program, including manager responsibilities, assisting Durmon Jennings with post players, clipping film and being a member of the scout team.
For Burton, it's his third Coach of the Year honor after receiving the distinction in the AAC and from Dave Campbell's Texas Basketball.
