208 Student-Athletes Named All-Academic
IRVING - Two UNT programs won American Athletic Conference Team Academic Excellence Awards and more than 200 Mean Green student-athletes earned AAC All-Academic honors for the 2023-24 year, the league announced on Thursday.
UNT's swimming and diving program and men's track and field team claimed the Academic Excellence Awards for having the highest team GPAs in the conference in their respective sports. It marks the second straight year the swim & dive program has won the award, as it joined the AAC a year before the rest of UNT's programs.
The AAC Team Academic Excellence Award selections are made by the conference's faculty athletics representatives. The winning teams were chosen based on the 2023-24 GPA of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster at the end of the academic year, weighing each student's GPA by credit-hour completed. The swim & dive team posted a 3.810 GPA, while men's track and field won with a 3.214 mark.
A total of 208 Mean Green student-athletes earned All-Academic nods. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a nominee must have attained a minimum GPA of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The Mean Green had standout academic numbers across all sports, as they led the conference with 14 men's golfers named to the all-academic team, tied for second in women's golf with nine, tied for third in swimming and diving with 25 and were fourth in softball with 22 team members named to the team.
