The Mean Green extend its longest conference winning streak since 2019 to seven matches
DENTON – Mean Green volleyball swept Memphis 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday night at the UNT Volleyball Center.
"This time of year, every match is important, but this was a huge win," head coach Dave Fleming said. "Obviously, we had a gut check on Wednesday against Abilene Christian, but we still felt like we had to win to keep [our momentum] going in the American Conference and we did a good job of that."
UNT (18-6, 8-3) held the Tigers (10-17, 1-10) to 31 kills, the lowest mark against a conference opponent since Oct. 4, 2024, as no Memphis player finished with more than seven kills. The Mean Green offense was led by sophomore Lilly Croshaw with 12 kills while middle blockers Ryann Vik and Loredana Fouonji combined for a .364 hitting percentage on 22 attacks.
The win extends a seven-match conference winning streak for North Texas and marks the longest league spell since 2019.
In both the first and second set, UNT capitalized on extended scoring runs near the midpoint of the frame with an 11-1 rally in the first and 11-2 streak in the second. In the second, the Tigers staved off set point for five serves before Vik tallied the set-winning kill.
Memphis carried its earned momentum into the third with an early 3-1 lead before the Mean Green snapped back to life with a seven-point spell that included four kills and a block from Croshaw.
The visitors continued to fight as it cut the deficit to within two points on three different occasions (12-10, 19-17, 21-20) before UNT finished with a 4-2 run capped by sophomore Reese Watters match-winning kill.
North Texas travels to UTSA (11-11, 4-7) on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside the Convocation Center. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
