HUTCHINSON, Kansas – A six-hour weather delay and a suspended second round due to darkness mangled the opening day of the OU Intercollegiate Presented by PDI at Prairie Dunes Country Club on Monday for the UNT women's golf team.
North Texas was only three holes into the first round when competition was suspended around 10:15 a.m. due to lightning. They then were forced to wait until 3 p.m. for play to resume.
The Mean Green were able to complete their first round but had barely started the second round when play was suspended due to darkness. Not all 14 teams competing at Prairie Dunes were able to even finish the first round.
The OU Intercollegiate Presented by PDI features a field that includes two teams ranked in the Women's Golf Coaches Association top-25 and three more receiving votes.
At the time play was suspended the Mean Green had shot a 312 (+33) and were sitting in 10th place. Despite its current placement on the team leaderboard, UNT is not far out of the top 5. No. 13 Florida leads the field at the time of suspension with a 287 (+7).
On the player leaderboard senior Mallorie Luitwieler and junior Bouquet Subsomboon are leading UNT tied for 32nd after shooting a 76 (+6) in the first round.
Play will resume Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT. The event has been shortened to 36 holes to remain a countable tournament and will conclude after the second round.
