Mestemaker Named Semifinalist for Walter Camp, Davey O'Brien and Burlsworth Awards

DENTON, Texas – UNT quarterback Drew Mestemaker continues to accumulate accolades during his breakout season, most recently being named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award and the Burlsworth Trophy, the organizations announced this week.
The redshirt freshman from Austin has been at the center of one of the nation's most explosive offenses in 2025, guiding the Mean Green to an 8-1 start.
Through nine games, Mestemaker has completed 214 of 310 passes for 2,702 yards and 21 touchdowns to just four interceptions on the year. He has also rushed for four touchdowns on the ground. Nationally, Mestemaker ranks eighth in the country in passing yards, ninth in passing touchdowns, 10th in total offense and 11th in points responsible for. He also leads all FBS freshmen in touchdown passes, passing yards and points responsible for.
The Davey O'Brien Award is presented annually to the nation's top quarterback, while the Walter Camp Award honors college football's most outstanding player, regardless of position. Mestemaker is one of 11 quarterbacks named semifinalists for both awards and is the only freshman among that group.
Finalists for both the Davey O'Brien and Walter Camp awards will be announced later this month. The Davey O'Brien Foundation will name its three finalists on Tuesday, Nov. 25, while the winners of both awards will be revealed during The Home Depot College Football Awards on Friday, Dec. 12.
Mestemaker is also one of 10 semifinalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, which recognizes the nation's most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on. He has been named the National Walk-On of the Week by the trophy's selection committee twice this season. Finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy will be announced on Nov. 18, with the winner set to be awarded on Dec. 8.
