Mean Green enter poll at No. 22 according to the Associated Press
DENTON - After matching a program-best 9-1 start to the 2025 season, the UNT football team earned its first ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 poll since 1959, coming in at No. 22.
Â
The Mean Green (9-1, 5-1 American) have won four straight games including handing Navy, who received the 26th-most votes in the latest AP Poll, its first loss of the season.
Â
"We're incredibly honored to see UNT back in the Top 25 for the first time since 1959," head coach Eric Morris said. "It's a testament to the work our players put in every day, the commitment of our staff and the belief this university and community have in our program. While we're proud of this accomplishment, our focus right now is on trying to go 1-0 this weekend at Rice."
Â
The last time North Texas was in the AP Poll was Nov. 14, 1959, when it ranked No. 16. The Mean Green have only been ranked by the AP twice in history, in back-to-back weeks of 1959. UNT was ranked in the UPI poll in 1977 from Oct. 5-Nov.14 but never moved into the AP Poll.
Â
North Texas has scored 50+ points five times in 10 games and has the No. 1 scoring offense in the country averaging 46.3 points per game. UNT also leads the nation in turnover margin averaging +1.44 turnovers per game.
Â
UNT has posted a 5-1 record in American Conference play and is one of four teams tied with one loss in league play with two weeks left.
Â
The Mean Green will travel to Houston Saturday to take on Rice at 6:30 PM on ESPNU at Rice Stadium. The season closes on Nov. 28 at 2:30 against Temple at 2:30 PM on ESPN.
