DENTON – Mean Green student-athletes recorded an 83 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) for the 2017-18 cohort, the NCAA announced Wednesday. It's their 10th consecutive year with a GSR score above 82 percent.
UNT's graduation success is widespread over its 12 athletic programs as 10 teams recorded graduation success rates above 82 percent with seven teams improving or maintaining their previous respective scores.
Specifically North Texas tennis and men's golf had graduation success rates of 100 percent. This marked the ninth consecutive year the Mean Green tennis program has had a score of 100 percent.
The GSR was developed by the NCAA in 1995 as part of its academic reform initiative to more accurately measure the academic success of Division I student-athletes by better accounting for the many different academic paths followed by today's college students. The NCAA also released the most recent federal graduation rate data in conjunction with the GSR information. The GSR holds institutions accountable for transfer students, whereas the federal graduation rate does not. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees. The NCAA calculates the federal graduation rate for student-athletes because it is the only rate by which to compare student-athletes to the general student body.
