TAMPA, Fla. – UNT volleyball fell 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 18-25) to Wichita State in the quarterfinals of the American Conference Championship on Friday afternoon at The Corral.
"It's a sad day because it's probably the end of this season for us," head coach Dave Fleming said. "We put a lot of work in, and it just didn't end the way we wanted it to, but a ton of credit goes to Wichita State. They played great and we had a really tough time slowing them down."
The Mean Green (21-9) finished with a hitting percentage of .292, the sixth-best mark of the season, while the Shockers (19-10) registered a .438 clip with 49 kills. For the seventh time this season, UNT had three players finish with a qualified attack rate above .300 as Jahniya Jackson (.400), Addison Achilles (.400) and Reagan Bedell (.389) led the way.
Senior Alexa Washington finished her final match in a Mean Green uniform with 14 assists, eight digs, four kills and two blocks.
"I'm really proud of them," Fleming added. "Everything was new, I was new to them, they were new to me. I told them in the locker room that I didn't know if we'd make it to .500 (in winning percentage) or if we'd be that team that was 3-28. I just didn't know because there were so many new variables. But they bought in, they believed in themselves, and really importantly, they believed in their teammates, and it showed. I'm just really proud of them."
