Hawkins Named Sporting News All-American

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNT freshman running back Caleb Hawkins joined former UNT greats Joe Greene and Jaelon Darden on Wednesday as the only players in program history to be named All-American by Sporting News.
Hawkins was named a second-team all-purpose back and joins Darden (2020, second team) and Greene (1968, first team) as the third player in program history to be honored by the historic publication, which is one of the five outlets used to determine consensus All-American status at the end of the season - an honor only Greene has received for the Mean Green.
Despite not playing one game and missing the better part of two others, Hawkins has rolled up 1,236 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns on 200 carries and has 29 receptions for 345 yards and three touchdowns. He leads the nation in both rushing scores and total touchdowns (26) and among players with at least 200 carries, Hawkins' 6.2 yards per carry ranks fourth nationally.
Last week, Hawkins was named a Second Team selection to the Walter Camp All-America team, also joining Darden and Greene as the only players in program history to earn that honor.
