
Tennis Accepts Bid to UTR Women’s NIT Championship

Mean Green finished 11-11 in the season.
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team has accepted a bid to the 2025 UTR Sports Women's NIT Championship in Rome, Georgia from May 7-9.
The tournament features eight teams and is in its third season. Similarly to other collegiate invitational tournaments, UTR offers teams which did not make the NCAA tournament a chance at postseason competition.
"We are thrilled to be selected for the UTR Sports Women's NIT Championship," head coach Amanda Stone said. "Earning postseason play was a goal from the beginning and to see that realized iin year two is awesome — our team really started to come on and click this last part of the season and it's exciting to get to battle again with this group."
Charlotte, Washington State, Appalachian State, Middle Tennessee, North Alabama, North Illinois and Saint Mary's round out the field of eight.
The 2024 winner of the tournament was Tulsa, a fellow competitor of North Texas in the American Athletic Conference.
North Texas finished the season 11-11 and picked up a ranked win over Tulane March 23. To end the regular season, the Mean Green won five of its final six matches to finish with a winning regular season record for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.
UNT opens against the Mountaineers May 7. Appalachian State (17-6) won 10 straight matches to close its regular season before falling to Troy in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
All matches in the tournament will be streamed on PlaySight with live scoring available via iOnCourt.
