
Tennis Signs Two New Players for 2025-26 Season

The Mean Green inked Diana Smolinska and Pia Petelinšek.
DENTON — The UNT women's tennis team announced the signing of two players to the 2025-26 roster Friday.
Diana Smolinska, from Kharkiv, Ukraine, joins the Mean Green with a 35-24 record in juniors play.
Smolinska reached a career-high ITF Junior Ranking of 1,603 on Jan. 27 after reaching the quarterfinals at a J30 event in Trnava, Slovakia
Finding consistent success in juniors, Smolinska reached the quarterfinal of four separate ITF J30 events. She also reached the semifinal at the Galychyna Cup Girls 16 Category Three tournament and quarterfinal at the TAC Cup Girls 16 Category Three tournament.
Pia Petelinšek joins UNT from Maribor, Slovenia. As a junior, Petelinsek collected 35 wins and 42 losses,
playing to a top 1,000 ITF Junior Ranking on Jan. 19, 2024, sitting at 693rd in the world.
Petelinšek won three ITF J60 doubles events during her time in juniors and was a finalist in the Maribor J60 singles event in 2023. Along with her ITF performances, Petelinšek won multiple national titles in her native Slovenia.
Petelinšek also got the chance to represent Slovenia in the Summer Cup in 2022 and 2023.
The Mean Green finished 12-12 in 2024-25, picking up a postseason win in the first round of the UTR Women's NIT Championship
