Women’s Basketball Signs Jazzy Owens-Barnett

DENTON, Texas — The UNT women's basketball roster for the 2025-26 season was completed on Tuesday with the signing of former Rice guard Jazzy Owens-Barnett.
Owens-Barnett played in 75 games over three seasons at Rice. After spending the majority of her first two seasons playing an integral role in the Owls' success off the bench, she made her way into the starting lineup as a junior starting all 12 games that she appeared in. In those 12 games, she averaged 4.8 points, 2.2 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game.
A Plano, Texas, native, Owens-Barnett had her best statistical season at Rice as a sophomore when she averaged 7.1 points, 1.7 rebounds. 1.5 assists and 1.1 steals over 31 games. She scored in double figures 10 times on the season, which included a career-high 21-point performance with a 4-for-4 mark on 3-point attempts in a win at South Florida on Feb. 7, 2024, that earned her American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
As a freshman, she made five starts while appearing in all 32 games. She posted a stat line of 5.5 points, 2.0 rebounds,1.8 assists and 19.6 minutes per game while adding 20 steals on the season.
Owens-Barnett was a local star for Frisco Liberty High School, leading the Redhawks to a state title in the 2019-20 season. Ranked as the No. 26 point guard in the nation by ESPN, she was a McDonald's All-American Game nominee as a senior.
