The Mean Green begin league play at Florida Atlantic on Dec. 30
IRVING, Texas – The UNT women's basketball team announced the remainder of its 2025-26 schedule with the American Conference unveiling the league play slate on Thursday morning.
The Mean Green will begin their third season in the American with a Florida swing to take on Florida Atlantic (Dec. 30) and South Florida (Jan. 3). It will be the first of two meetings with both programs as Florida Atlantic visits Denton on Jan. 31, while South Florida will be the final home game of the season for North Texas on Feb. 28.
UNT will host the first of its nine home games during conference play on Jan. 6 against East Carolina. The matchup with the Pirates has been a rather eventful series in recent years as the last two regular season meetings have gone a combined six overtime periods.
North Texas will then hit the road again to face Tulane on Jan. 10 and UAB on Jan. 20 with a pair of home games between the trips as Memphis (Jan. 13) and Rice (Jan. 17) visit The Super Pit. The lone meeting of the regular season with Tulsa will take place in Denton on Jan. 24.
The Mean Green travel to San Antonio to battle the reining regular season champions, UTSA, on Jan. 27. The Roadrunners will return the visit Feb. 24 in the penultimate home game of the season at The Super Pit.
A two-game road trip with contests at Temple (Feb. 7) and Rice (Feb. 10), followed by home games against Tulane (Feb. 10) and UAB (Feb. 17) will open the February calendar for UNT. The Mean Green will then visit the East Coast for a matchup with Charlotte on Feb. 21 before the final pair of home games and a trip to Wichita State on March 3 that will conclude the regular season.
Tipoff times and broadcast designations for each game will be announced as it becomes available.
The 2026 American Basketball Championship will run Tuesday through Saturday, March 10-14 at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC in Birmingham, Alabama. Beginning this season, the championship will feature the top 10 teams in a new five-day bracket format. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will advance directly to the semifinals, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will maintain byes to the quarterfinals. The No. 5 and No. 6 seeds will receive byes to the second round.
The Mean Green have clinched the second seed at the conference tournament in each of the past two seasons under head coach Jason Burton. Coming off a program record 25-win season, UNT will host 17 games at The Super Pit, which includes a marquee matchup with Oklahoma State on Dec. 3 during non-conference play. Burton's squad will also square off with three other Power Four programs, including SMU in Dallas and Texas Tech in Frisco.
"We play a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare us for a tough conference run, which is what we will see," Burton said. Early on we will be challenged with three of our first four games being on the road against some of the league's best teams. The good thing is we end with four of six at home and The Super Pit has been great to us the last two seasons. We're looking forward to another great conference run."
