CORAL GABLES, Fla. – UNT volleyball faced a challenging day at the Knight Sports Complex, suffering two losses in the 305 Challenge. The Mean Green first fell to Drake, 3-0 (18-25, 22-25, 19-25), before losing to RV Miami (FL) in three sets (18-25, 14-25, 18-25).
"Tough day but we proved to ourselves that we can compete with really good teams," head coach Dave Fleming said. "We also proved we are not there with our consistency."
In the match against Drake (2-3), North Texas (3-2) struggled offensively, recording a season-low 35 kills. Sophomore Lilly Croshaw led the team with a career-high nine kills and a .409 hitting percentage. Despite holding late leads in sets two and three, the Mean Green were unable to capture a set, marking their first loss of the season.
Later in the evening, the Mean Green faced the Hurricanes (3-1) and led in each set but ultimately could not secure a set win. The first set began promisingly with North Texas jumping out to a 7-4 lead, highlighted by a pair of blocks from Addison Achilles. They maintained a 15-13 lead until the Hurricanes capitalized on several errors, winning the set 25-18.
Jahniya Jackson shone in the second set, opening with three kills, but Miami rallied to win 25-14. Jackson finished the match with seven kills, including five in the second set. In the third, both Sidney Soria and Riley Hemphill recorded their first career kills, but the Mean Green fell again, 25-18.
UNT will look to bounce back as they close the weekend on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT against Stetson on ESPN+ at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
