Mean Green add Special Teams Coordinator and Safeties Coaches to Brown’s first staff
DENTON – UNT football head coach Neal Brown has announced the additions of two members of the staff Friday.
Jeff Crosby will be named the special teams coordinator while Jevaughn Codlin will join the staff as the safeties coach.
In over 10 years on staffs at the FBS level, Crosby has worked with two College Football Playoff teams and eight bowl teams, including appearances at the Cotton, Fiesta, Peach, Rose and Sugar Bowls with time at App State, Texas, Washington and Southern Miss.
Crosby spent the 2025 season as the special teams coordinator at App State where he helped the Mountaineers earn a trip to the JLab Birmingham Bowl.
In 2025 at App State, Crosby coached a Mountaineers special teams unit that finished in the top 30 in FBS in net punting (28th), blocked kicks (t-9th) and punt returns (26th). App State was one of just four FBS programs to block three or more extra points/field goals in 2025.
Crosby was key in the development of Third Team All-Sun Belt selection Dominic De Freitas who finished the season knocking down 20 of 25 FGs with a long of 49.
Crosby has also assisted with special teams units at Texas (2021-24), Washington (2017-20) and Southern Miss (2015-16).
Codlin, meanwhile, joins the UNT staff after spending the 2025 season as an analyst/defensive line coach at Notre Dame, helping the Fighting Irish post a 10-2 overall record.
In his one season at Notre Dame, the Irish finished the season as the No. 12 scoring defense and the No. 11 rush defense in the nation. Codlin helped mentor DL Boubacar Traore who finished 22nd the nation in sacks per game.
One of the top young coaches in college football, Codlin was named to the 247Sports 30 Under 30 list prior to the 2025 season.
Upon arriving at Notre Dame, Codlin made his presence immediately felt on the recruiting trail. He played a major role in helping the Irish assemble the nation's top defensive back class in the 2026 cycle, headlined by a pair of five-star prospects.
Prior to his time at Notre Dame, Codlin was on staff with Neal Brown at West Virginia in 2023 and 2024, serving as the assistant secondary coach in 2024 and a defensive graduate assistant in 2023.
With the Mountaineers, Codlin helped mentor All-American Beanie Bishop who led the nation in passes defended in 2023.
Codlin joined the WVU staff after spending the 2022 season as the assistant defensive backs coach at Division II Emporia State where he helped the Hornets post a 9-3 overall record and earn a win in the Farmers Bank & Trust UNITED Bowl.
Season ticket renewals for the 2026 season as well as new season tickets are on sale now.
