IRVING, Texas – The UNT football team earned its first weekly league awards of the season on Monday as quarterback Tayven Jackson and defensive lineman Davion Rhodes were named American Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
Jackson continued his stellar play during UNT's 50-10 rout of Charlotte on Saturday, completing 24 of 31 passes for 349 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. He connected on his first 14 pass attempts, a stretch that netted 208 yards and three scores, before finishing as the fourth different UNT quarterback since at least 1995 to have 325+ passing yards, 5+ passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in a game. It was also Jackson's third time eclipsing 300 passing yards in his past four contests.
Following Saturday's performance, Jackson ranks third across the FBS in passing yards (1,868), ninth in passing touchdowns (15) and ninth in completion percentage (72.2). With him under center, the Mean Green have gained at least 500 yards of offense in each of their past four games.
Defensively, Rhodes filled the stat sheet with five tackles, including two solo stops, two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, a pass breakup, a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble. The two sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss both marked career-highs for Rhodes.
In addition, Rhodes became one of two FBS players to have had at least five tackles, multiple sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, a pass deflection and a forced fumble in a single game this season. He is now tied for the FBS lead with four forced fumbles in just six games played thus far.
Winners of three straight games, the Mean Green return to action on Oct. 24 when they visit Navy. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
