DENTON - UNT senior tight end Max Reese was named on Tuesday as the John Mackey Award Player of the Week for his standout performance on Friday night in the Mean Green's overtime win at Tulsa.
Reese caught five balls for 101 yards and a touchdown - his second of the season for UNT. It marked his first career 100-yard receiving game and he also had a career-long 41-yard reception.
The 6-foot-2, 249-pound tight end has seen his role in the Mean Green's offense increase each week, and both his receptions and yardage totals have gone up weekly over the past three games. Reese is the fourth tight end in program history to record a 100-yard receiving game and is the first since 2004.
The Mackey Award is given annually to the best tight end in college football and will be recognized on The Home Depot College Football Awards show, which helps kick off bowl season.
