TYLER, Texas – Fifth-year quarterback Tayven Jackson added to his growing list of accolades on Tuesday when he was named the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week after his standout performance in Thursday's 48-41 win over Florida Atlantic.
Jackson has been honorable mention for the award twice previously this season, but this marks the first time he's won the weekly award.
The native of Indiana threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions and also rushed for 41 yards. He's the No. 3 passer in the country with 2,577 yards in eight games and has thrown for 22 touchdowns and rushed for two. He's also No. 3 nationally in total offense and fourth in completion percentage and sixth in passing touchdowns.
The Mean Green also had two players land on the weekly honorable mention list: running back Jahiem White and wide receiver Kyle Koch.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: Played football and graduated from a Texas High School and/or playing at a four-year Division I Texas college.
