Junior from Brazil becomes first UNT player to earn the honor since March of 2024
IRVING, Texas – Junior UNT tennis student-athlete Carolina Laydner has been named the American Conference Player of the Week after a stellar week on the courts, the league announced Tuesday.
Laydner went 2-0 in singles matches at line one and was also a perfect 2-0 in doubles. She becomes the first player to earn the honor since Stanislava Shulzhenko did so in March of 2024.
In her two singles matches against ACU and Tarleton, Laydner won both in straight sets taking down ACU 6-2, 6-2 before defeating Tarleton 6-1, 7-4.
With the wins, Laydner is now 14-3 overall this season and is 10-2 at line one, becoming just the 11th player in program history and first since 2017 to have double-digit line one wins in a single season.
In doubles action, Laydner teamed up with Pia Petelinsek for a 6-3 win over ACU and a 6-2 victory over Tarleton.

North Texas earned the #6 seed in the American Conference Championship and will open play against #11 Memphis in the first round on Thursday in Houston at 4:00 PM.
