Three from UNT Sign NFL UDFA Deals

Da’Veawn Armstead, Cameron Dorner and Jimto Obidegwu sign deals to play with Vikings, Patriots and Jaguars
DENTON, Texas – UNT football letterwinners Da'Veawn Armstead, Cameron Dorner and Jimto Obidegwu all signed NFL undrafted free agent deals following the conclusion of the 2026 NFL Draft Saturday.
Armstead signed to play with the Minnesota Vikings, Dorner inked with the New England Patriots and Obidegwu agreed to terms with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
All three players were vital members of the 2025 UNT football team that set a program record with 12 wins, earned a spot in the American Conference Championship game and won the 2025 Isleta New Mexico Bowl over San Diego State.
A cornerback out of Baton Rouge, LA, Armstead appeared in all 14 games on the year for the Mean Green with 13 starts. He finished the 2025 season with 43 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, five PBUs and a pair of interceptions He arrived at UNT after spending the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Sam Houston where he played in a total of 24 games.
Dorner made the most of his opportunity in his one year at North Texas, playing in all 14 games with eight starts at wide receiver. The transfer from New Market, Maryland, caught 56 passes for 911 yards and eight touchdowns, including the eventual game-winner in the bowl game against SDSU. He started his collegiate career at Shepherd University in West Virginia where he appeared in 33 games with 17 starts for the Rams.
Obidegwu, a transfer from Kent State, was a Third Team All-American Conference selection after starting 11 game on the offensive line for the Mean Green in 2025. According to Pro Football Focus, Obidegwu did not allow a sack all season while helping UNT post the nation's top scoring offense and the most rushing touchdowns in the country.
In addition to the three UDFA signings, tight end Tre Williams III received rookie camp invites from both the San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts. Williams was the starting tight end for all 14 games on the year for UNT and closed the year with 30 catches, 375 yards and five touchdowns.
The Mean Green did find themselves represented in the NFL Draft in 2026 by former UNT walk-on offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu who spent the 2021-23 seasons at North Texas before transferring to Oklahoma where he closed his career from 2024-25. Nwaiwu was selected in the fourth round of the draft (No. 106 overall) by the Houston Texas. In three seasons at UNT, Nwaiwu was a freshman All-American at UNT in 2022 and started a total of 19 games.
