DENTON – UNT women's golf senior Malisone Chanthapanya and junior Bouquet Subsomboon both were selected to the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Waco Regional on Wednesday.
The NCAA regional is held May 11-13 at Ridgewood Country Club. This marks the first time the Mean Green have had an individual earn a selection to a NCAA Regional since Lauren Cox in 2019. North Texas made NCAA Regionals as a team in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
The NCAA committee selected 72 teams (including automatic qualifiers) and 36 individuals (including automatic qualifiers) not on those teams for participation at one of the six regional sites. Each regional site is comprised of 12 teams and six individuals (not on one of the selected teams). Five teams and the leading individual not on an advancing team from each regional site shall advance to the final site. Regional play will take place May 11-13 at six regional sites, and the national championship tournament will be held from May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
Chanthapanaya has had a career-best year with four top 10 finishes, including two runner-up performances. She broke the program record for the lowest single round score in UNT history with a 64 in the third round of the 2025 Jim West Challenge on Oct. 20, which was the first of two events she came in second at. Last week, the Fort Worth native came in seventh at the American Conference Women's Golf Championship.
The two-time NAIA All-American will be making her first trip to the NCAA Tournament when she goes to Waco.
Subsomboon has had three top 10 finishes and been a steady leader for the Mean Green this season. She came in second place at the 2025 Sam Golden Invitational and finished in seventh at the highly competitive Bear Brawl in October. After a tough first round at the American Conference Championship, Subsomboon had an impressive last two rounds to come in 18th place.
This will be Subsomboon's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Both Mean Green golfers are ranked inside the top 200 in the nation.
