UNT is the #2 overall seed in the eight-team tournament slated to begin on May 5 at 4:30 PM vs. #7 College of Charleston
ROME, Ga. – For the second consecutive season, the UNT tennis team has been selected to compete in a postseason tournament as they will play in the UTR NIT Championships as the No. 2 overall seed in Rome, Georgia beginning on May 5.
The Mean Green will open play in the NIT against the #7 seed College of Charleston at 4:30 PM at Rome Tennis Center. With a win, UNT would advance to the semifinal against the winner of the matchup between #3 Arkansas State and #6 McNeese State on May 6 with the championship occurring at 9:00 AM on May 7.
North Texas closed the regular season with a 17-8 overall record; the program's most wins in a single season since 2013. With two more wins in the tournament, the Mean Green would set a single-season program record for wins since the sport moved to a spring-only dual season in the 1980s.
Last season, UNT won its first-round match of the NIT against App State 4-1 before falling to Washington State in the semifinal.
College of Charleston heads into the tournament with a 16-8 overall record and advanced to the semifinal of the CAA Championships in mid-April.
The teams in the other half of the bracket for the championship are #1 Kansas State, #4 North Alabama, #5 Army and #8 Northern Illinois.
