DENTON – The UNT women's golf team signed 2026 WGCA DII All-American transfer Lucy Smith on Monday.
Smith joins the Mean Green after spending last season at UT Tyler where she was the Lone Star Conference's Freshman of the Year, voted All-LSC First Team and WGCA All-Freshman Team. She finished her freshman campaign ranked No. 70 nationally and finished with a 74.7 adjusted scoring average over 32 rounds and 12 tournaments to earn an Honorable Mention DII All-American status.
The Prosper, Texas, native won the Southern Invite and Emerald Coast Classic last year while also posting four top 10 finishes. She led the Patriots to their best season at the DII level as they reached the NCAA Division II Championship for the first time in program history and concluded the season earning a No. 11 national ranking, its highest ranking ever.
In early February Smith guided UT Tyler to the Southern Invite title, a field that featured 15 of the best DII teams in the country. Smith shot a 218 (+1) and won her first collegiate individual championship. A month later she led UT Tyler to the Emerald Coast Collegiate title, finishing ahead of 16 teams, as she shot a 212 (-1) and took home another individual title.
Smith is the first player in UT Tyler women's golf history to be named Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year and the first freshman to be named LSC First Team All-Conference.
Behind the freshman's leadership, the Patriots never finished worse than in fourth place in any of their nine events last season.
