Mean Green match program record with six WGCA All-American Scholars
DENTON – For a second consecutive season the UNT women's golf team had a program record six players named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar list.
Seniors Malisone Chanthapanya, Mason Lewis and Mallorie Luitwieler, juniors Katharina Anglett and Boquet Subsomboon as well as freshman Marin Fujiyasu were all named to the prestigious list. The WGCA All-American Scholars has some of the most stringent criteria for selection in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.50 and a participation threshold of more than half of the team's tournaments from the season.
"I am very proud to have six student-athletes named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team," said head coach Michael Akers. "Our program's commitment to academics is very evident over the past decade. The life of a successful student-athlete depends very much on time management, and our ladies have done a great job of managing all aspects of their lives. The fact that both Malisone and Bouquet earned at-large bids to the NCAAs while maintaining perfect 4.0 GPAs is simply amazing. I am very proud of every member of our program."
This is the third consecutive year the Mean Green women's golf program has had at least five players named to the WGCA All-American Scholars.
The team finished just outside the NCAA Tournament bubble in the spring, however, Chanthapanya and Subsomboon in addition to being named All-American Scholars each earned invites to the NCAA Tournament as individuals and were named All-American Conference.
