Mia Gallo Joins Women’s Basketball Staff as Director of Basketball Operations

DENTON, Texas – The UNT women's basketball program has added Mia Gallo as director of basketball operations, head coach Jason Burton announced Monday.
Gallo joins the Mean Green staff with a decade of Division I coaching and playing experience, most recently spending two seasons as an assistant coach and director of basketball operations at UC Davis.
During that span, Gallo helped UC Davis compile an impressive 44-23 record, win 70% of its conference games and accumulate seven All-Big West honorees.
Behind one of the nation's top-ranked defenses, the Aggies won 21 games during Gallo's first season and came up just shy of an NCAA Tournament appearance as runners-up at the Big West Championship. They then improved to 23 wins and a 15-5 conference record the following the year while reaching the Women's National Invitation Tournament for the sixth time in program history. Gallo also coached center Megan Norris to a breakout 2025-26 campaign, ranking top 10 in the country in both total rebounds (425) and double-doubles (20).
Gallo moved out west following a two-year stint as the video coordinator at Rice. With her on staff, the Owls went 42-24 overall and won the 2024 American Conference Championship to secure the program's fourth NCAA Tournament berth ever.
Prior to her to stint at Rice, she held a graduate assistant position at Boise State from 2019-21 and again at Southern Miss during the 2021-22 season.
"I'm really excited to add Mia to our staff and bring an American Conference champ back to the league," Burton said. "Mia is relentless when it comes to her work ethic. She is a proven winner, cares about people and is going to add tremendous value to our program."
Gallo played in 52 career games for Cal State Fullerton, first joining the team as a walk-on during her sophomore year before eventually being put on scholarship two seasons later. She earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton in 2019, as well as a pair of master's degrees at Boise State (M.S. Athletic Leadership) and Southern Miss (M.S. Sport Management).
