Alessandra Romo Named American Conference Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – UNT volleyball libero Alessandra Romo earned American Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after a stellar season-opening weekend at the ACU Invitational, the league announced Monday.
In three matches over the weekend, Romo collected a league-leading 52 digs and commanded the Mean Green defense without surrendering a single reception error. She completed Friday's season opener with a career-high 20 digs, a total that was quickly surpassed the following match when she recorded 23 more.
The award is Romo's first of her career as she also becomes the first Mean Green player to receive Defensive Player of the Week recognition since Loredana Fouonji back on Sept. 29, 2025. She is the program's 14th different player to win a league defensive player of the week award.
Romo and the Mean Green return to action this week with a pair of challenging matches, first traveling to No. 20 Baylor (3-0) on Thursday before hosting No. 17 Florida (1-0) Sunday at the Super Pit in the home opener. Both matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
