Women’s Basketball Welcomes Rynae Rasley to Coaching Staff

DENTON, Texas – UNT women's basketball head coach Jason Burton has announced the hiring of Rynae Rasley as an associate coach.
Rasley joins the Mean Green staff with a strong body of work, spending the last decade in various roles at the Air Force Academy and coaching across multiple levels since 2010.
"Rynae is a tremendous coach and an even better person," Burton said. "She's done it as a head coach and as both an assistant and associate head coach at an elite service academy in the Mountain West. Now, she brings a wealth of experience, work ethic and character to North Texas. We're incredibly excited about her joining our program."
During her 10 seasons with The Academy, Rasley served as an assistant coach over two different stints (2016-19; 2024-26) that were bridged by a five-year span as head coach of the AFA Preparatory School. She was eventually elevated to associate head coach following the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.
The final two years of Rasley's tenure marked perhaps the most successful stretch of Air Force's Division I era. In her first season back on staff, the Falcons posted the program's second-best record in DI history and reached the national postseason for just the second time ever when it hosted Utah Valley in the WNIT. Air Force followed up that program-defining season with a historic finish the following year, making its first appearance in the Mountain West Tournament finals and repeating as a host site in the WNIT. The Academy had never hosted a postseason game before doing so in back-to-back seasons.
She made a significant impact on the Air Force Academy Preparatory School while fulfilling the role of head coach from 2019-24. Seven different student-athletes advanced to the Falcons' Division I roster under Rasley's guidance, combining for 65 starts and multiple entries into the program record book. That group included 2026 Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year Jayda McNabb and 2026 Mountain West All-Tournament honoree Emily Adams.
Rasley's original tenure on the Falcon staff coincided with a pivotal period of program growth. The Falcons recorded five conference victories throughout the 2017-18 season, a program benchmark at the time, while setting five team and six individual school records. After that foundational period, Air Force accumulated 42 league wins and finished ninth or better in the conference standings six times.
Prior to her time at The Academy, Rasley was an assistant coach at Nyack College from 2013-16.
She originally began her coaching career at the City College of New York, first in a volunteer capacity before being named an assistant coach and administrative coordinator ahead of the 2011-12 campaign. There, Rasley contributed to all facets of program operations while playing a key role in student-athlete development across 17 NCAA sports.
As a student-athlete, Rasley played basketball at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and led the program to consecutive Region I Division II championships. She ultimately concluded her career at the City College of New York, where she was named a two-time captain and averaged 10 points and six assists per game.
Rasley graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from City College in 2011 and a Master of Science in organizational leadership from Nyack College two years later.
"The most important thing we have to get right in our program is the people, and that includes our players and staff," Burton said. "We got the people right when we hired Yannick Denson, Mia Gallo and now Rynae."
