Laydner, McKnight Lead Strong UNT Showing at Lumberjack Classic

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – The UNT tennis team continued its strong start to the fall season with a 21-6 combined record at the Lumberjack Classic, highlighted by undefeated weekends from Carolina Laydner and Zimora McKnight in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Overall, the Mean Green went 13-5 in singles play and 8-1 in doubles action throughout the three-day tournament.

Laydner and McKnight each went 3-0 in singles competition. Laydner opened the weekend with a three-set victory over New Mexico State before defeating Northern Arizona and Utah on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. McKnight posted three straight-set victories, defeating New Mexico State, Utah and Northern Arizona.

In doubles play, Laydner and Maya Chen went 3-0, earning victories over Utah, Northern Arizona and Utah to finish the weekend undefeated. McKnight and Stadfany Nformi also went 3-0, defeating Northern Arizona, New Mexico State and New Mexico State.

Chen added a 2-1 record in singles play to finish the weekend with a 5-1 combined record. Ujin Batsukh and Lilly Schultz each went 2-1 in singles competition, while Giuliana Ciangherotti finished 2-1.

Batsukh and Schultz also teamed up in doubles play, going 2-1 during the weekend. North Texas' three doubles teams combined to go 8-1, with Nformi and McKnight and Laydner and Chen each finishing undefeated.

The Mean Green will return to action Oct. 8-12 at the ITA Texas Regional in Waco, Texas.
