Sam Bennett joined the UNT football staff in March 2022. He currently serves as senior analyst on defense.
Prior to his appointment in Denton, Bennett spent two seasons from 2020-21 on staff at the University of Hawaii. He served as run game coordinator/offensive line coach in 2020 and as offensive tackles/tight ends coach in 2021.
He did a one-year stint as a coaching assistant with the Arizona Cardinals under Kliff Kingsbury where he assisted with daily practice and game planning in all facets of the offense. His time in the NFL followed three seasons on staff at Arizona State as an offensive analyst (2018) and a graduate assistant (2016-17), where he worked primarily with the offensive line and tight ends.
Bennett also had two seasons at Rice as a graduate assistant from 2014-15 under coach David Bailiff, working with the quarterbacks and offensive line.
He was a two-year letterman at SMU under his father, Phil Bennett. He later earned his bachelor's degree in Advertising from Texas Tech in 2010 and a master’s degree from Arizona State in 2017.
The Dallas, Texas native got his first coaching job with Irving High School where he coached the offensive and defensive line in 2011. Bennett and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Scottie and Stevie.
