Jason Smith joined the UNT Football staff in 2022. He currently serves as an offensive analyst. Smith, who served as a volunteer coaching intern at UNT in 2022, is a five-year NFL veteran.
In 2022, North Texas advanced the Conference USA Championship game and earned a trip to the Frisco Bowl. The Mean Green finished top three in CUSA in total offense, scoring offense and rushing offense. UNT finished No. 6 nationally in sacks allowed (0.79).
Smith was selected No. 2 overall by the then St. Louis Rams in the 2009 draft. He is the highest drafted offensive lineman in Big 12 Conference history. He played in 45 games in his career with 26 starts.
A Dallas native, Smith starred on the offensive line at Baylor from 2004-08, where he was named first team All-Big 12 and an All-American as a senior. He was inducted into the Baylor Hall of Fame in 2020.
Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from Baylor in 2008. He and his wife, Dacie, have two children, Jate and Drue.
