Lancon Breaks School Record In Pole Vault

Fort Worth (4/19/03) - North Texas sophomore pole vaulter Ryan Lancon reached new heights as he broke the school record by clearing 16-8.75 at the TCU Invitational. Lancon, who has already qualified for the NCAA regional, broke the old record held by Frank Sykora of 16-6.75 set in 1996.
Lancon was just one of many standout performances by the Mean Green on the day as senior shot putter Jerome Carrothers had another sensational toss of 53-9.25. Sprinter Derek Logan came within .02 hundredths of a second from qualifying for the NCAA regional in the 200 meters as he clocked in with a time of 21.22. Logan also had the Mean Green's best time of the day in the 100 meter dash at 10.57.
On the women's side senior sprinter Ananka Clark blazed her way into the NCAA regionals in two events. First Clark ripped off a season best time of 11.54 in the 100 meter dash followed up with a time of 23.82 in the 200 meters to earn the qualifying bid. Osaze Aghedo just missed making the regionals in the 100 meter dash with her season best time of 11.82.
In the women's high jump Kimberly Barnes won the event by clearing 5-5. Freshman Diedra Wesley was not far behind as she placed third by clearing 5-3.
North Texas will next compete in the Rice Twilight on April 26.
