Cross Country Teams Fare Well at Lamar Invitational

BEAUMONT, TX (10/18/04) - Anchored by three top ten finishes, the North Texas Men's Cross Country Team took second place at the Lamar Invitational.
Justin Kauffman finished third overall with a time of 25:40 in the 8k race, his fastest time of the year by over a minute and a half. This is Kauffman's second consecutive third place finish and his third top 10 performance this season.
Frank Ngeno wasn't far behind, posting his fastest time of the year with a fifth place finish in a time of 26:04. In four races with the Mean Green this season, Ngeno has yet to finish outside the top five.
Matt Gieringer also grabbed a top ten spot, finishing seventh with a time of 26:19 in his fastest race of the season.
Josh Rogers finished in 29th place with a time of 27:36, and Logan Newell posted a 27:55 while earning 35th place.
Derek Ray and Michael Hernandez finished back to back in 54th and 55th place. Ray posted a time of 28:56 while Hernandez clocked in at 58:59.
Sean Covington rounded out the field for the Mean Green with a 58th place finish in a time of 29:02.
On the women's side, Jill Brennan's sixth place finish secured the Mean Green's fifth place overall finish.
This is the first time this season that the Mean Green have competed in a 6k race, and Brennan navigated it well, finishing in 23:19.
Dagmar Salazar managed a top 20 finish with a time of 24:21, good for 18th place.
She was followed closely by Cassie Storms who finished in 25th place with a time of 24:45.
Jordan Skelton finished the race in 26:19 in 52nd place, and Rebekkah Smith finished in 61st place with a time of 27:26.
