Brooks and Schmidt Both Have Top Performances

AUSTIN (4/2/04)- North Texas sophomore Ciji Brooks had the best throw of the season in the Sun Belt Conference in the shot put at 45-10.50 at the Texas Relays while junior Jessica Schmidt won the 3,000-meter run and finished second in the 1,500-meter race at the Tarleton College Relays.
Brooks is joined at the top of the list in the shot put by freshman Stacy Orakpo who had a toss of 45-3 to put her third in the Sun Belt. Other top performers for North Texas at the Texas Relays include Deidra Wesley who finished with 4525 points in the heptathlon, the second most in the Sun Belt this season. The women's 4x400 team had a season best time at 3:52.36 and the 4x100 relay team checked in at 46.97.
For the men the Mean Green were paced by their relay teams as the 4x400 relay team had a season best time at 3:11.44, which is also the second fastest in the conference this season. The 4x100 relay team had a time of 42.02.
At the Tarleton College Relays North Texas had four first place finishes led by Schmidt winning the 3,000-meters at 4:50.16. Others winners include Janisha Warren who won the 100-meter hurdles with the second best time in the conference at 14.56.
Bonnie McKernan won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:55.02. On the men's side pole vaulter Chris Mordecai had a season best height at 15-9.75, the second best jump in the Sun Belt this season.
