Mean Green Cross Country Teams Finish First and Second

The races were run in a dual meet format, where schools are paired in head-to-head matchups to determine the winner of the meet. The women’s team won all of its matches while the men were bested only by the meet champions,
“I think we ran extremely well,” said head coach Rick Watkins. “In cross county, how the fourth and fifth place runners finish is just as important as how your top runners finish. Today we got great performances from everyone and were able to win nearly all of our matchups.”
The women’s team was anchored by Jill Brennan’s fourth place finish. Her time of
Dagmar Salazar just missed the top 10 in the field of 69, running a
Cassie Storms staked a 19th place finish with a time of
Rebekah Smith rounded out the women’s field with a
On the men’s side, Frank Ngeno, Matt Gieringer and Justin Kaufmann all claimed top 10 finishes.
Ngeno once again led the Mean Green with a third place finish. His time of 26:09 is nine seconds faster than his last meet in an 8k event.
Not far behind was Gieringer, who ran a 26:26 and finished in fifth. Kaufman finished sixth in a time of 26:41.
Josh Rogers and Sean Covington finished back to back in 13th and 14th place.
Logan Newell finished in 18th with a time of 27:56, and Jose Zubia claimed 21st place with a 28:28.
The eighth Mean Green men’s runner to earn a top 25 finish was Michael Hernandez with 23rd place and a time of 28:47.
Derek Ray finished in 26th in the 51 man field with a time of 29:08.
