Three Track Athletes Named Performers Of The Week

(1-25-05) - North Texas track athletes Justin Kauffman, Ciji Brooks and Jessica Henderson were named Performers of the Week by the Sun Belt Conference for their winning efforts at the OU Indoor Classic in Norman, Okla. last weekend.

Henderson was named Women's Field Performer of the Week for leading the women's team to the meet's overall title with her record shattering toss in the 20 pound weight throw. The senior's throw of 49-6.50 toppled the old school record by over seven feet. Even more amazing, it was the senior's first competitive throw in this event. Henderson also placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 39-3.75.

Brooks was named the Women's Track Performer of the Week for anchoring the North Texas women to a 1-2-3 sweep of the 60-meter hurdles. Brooks, last year's outdoor hurdles champion, set a career best in this event with a time of 8.93.

Kauffman took home gold in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.26, and was named Men's Track Performer of the Week. His time was just seconds off his personal best set last season. He also placed second in the mile run with a time of 4:30.95.

The Mean Green track teams will return to action at the Red Raider Classic on Feb. 5, in Lubbock, Tx.
