Track Team Begins Conference Title Chase

Jessica Henderson and Heath Smith both recorded top ten finishes in the discus to begin the championships for the Mean Green.
Henderson, the two-time defending conference champion in the event, placed fourth with a throw of 42.41-meters. The senior owns the top two throws in school history but will miss the NCAA Regional Meet for the first time in two years.
Smith finished eighth overall, with a throw of 42.53-meters. The sophomore is also slated to compete in three more field events this weekend.
Cassie Storms and Matt Gieringer also competed in the 10,000-meter run. Storms finished fourth in the women's run with a time of 38:41.38, the second fastest time in school history. Gieringer finished fifth with a time of 32:48.38 in the men's run, the fastest of run of the season.
Despite sustaining a knee injury earlier this season, Deidra Wesley was hoping to make her return at the conference championship. The junior was slated to compete in the heptathlon, but soreness in her knee during warm-ups kept her out of the event.
