Young Guns Show Speed In Lubbock

Freshman DeShayla Spencer earned her first victory in her first meet, taking home gold in the 1,000-meter run. The Wills Point native posted a time of 3:19.28 in the indoor season opener.
Freshman Brandi Stanfield showed her prowess on the track in a second place finish in the 200-meter dash. The USA Today All-American long jumper and triple jumper in high school finished in 25.08, only four-tenths of a second off the school record in her first career meet.
Lauren Wiggins, also a freshman, notched a second place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.15 seconds.
On the men’s side, Temitayo Harriman and Patrick Cotton each had stellar results in the 1,000-meters, both in their first meets. Harriman, a sophomore, finished first in the 1,000 with a time of 2:35.71, while the freshman took fifth in 2:41.78.
But it wasn’t just the freshmen that had success in
Junior Lee Porter finished third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:39.57.
The Mean Green will be back in action on Saturday in the second of Texas Tech’s two meets, the Texas Tech
