Stanfield, a 2005
Stanfield wasn’t the only Mean Green newcomer to have success on Saturday. Freshmen Lauren Wiggins and Shayla Hart both nearly brought home gold in the 55-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash respectively. Wiggins nearly nudged the school record, posting a time of 8.00 seconds in a second place finish. Hart finished third with a time of 58.74.
Rachel Runnels’ time of 24.69 in the 200-meter dash earned the sophomore a third place finish, and nearly nabbed her the school record. The sprinter missed the record by only one-one hundredth of a second.
The Mean Green took three of the top five spots in the 600-yard run. Junior Kim Williams earned second place with a time of 1:25.66, while sophomore Tikisha Walwyn finished fourth in 1:29.51 and DeShayla Spencer’s 1:30.61 earned the freshman fifth place.
Sprinter Brandon Irabor led the way for the Mean Green win with outstanding finishes in the 55 meters and the 200 meters. The sophomore finished second in the 200 with a time of 21.91 and fourth in the 55 in 6.47.
