Outdoor Track Season Opens With Trifecta at Baylor

The Mean Green’s school record came courtesy of field athlete Heath Smith. The junior snapped the javelin record with a toss of 192-feet-5-inches, breaking Lupe Florez’ 2002 mark by nearly three feet.
The women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Lauren Wiggins, Rachael Runnels, Keisha Hornsby and Chi Chi Echebelem set the season’s first regional qualifying mark. The squad’s time of 45.54 is also the fourth fastest time in school history.
Deidra Wesley, fresh off her school-record high jump at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, brought home gold at the outdoor season’s opening meet. The senior won with a leap of 5-feet-7-inches.
The Mean Green returns to action on April 1 at the Arlington Invitational.
