Track & Field Off To Hot Start At SBC Championships

LAFAYETTE, La. (5/12/06) Deidra Wesley propelled the North Texas track and field team to a blistering start at the 2006 Aropostale Sun Belt Conference Championships on Friday.
The senior racked up 3,233 points through four heptathlon events, well on pace to shatter her own school record and automatically qualify for the NCAA National Championships.
Wesley, the 2004 Sun Belt heptathlon champion, swept the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and 200-meter dash, and needs only 1,798 additional points to snap her own school record set in April of 2005. The
Tomorrow, Wesley will look to grab her eighth all-conference nod with the final three heptathlon events the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
Cassie Storms capped off a stellar career at
Indoor all-American Brandi Stanfield will also be competing tomorrow in the long jump. The freshman currently holds the nation’s 10th best long jump and fourth best triple jump, and was named the Sun Belt Field Athlete and Freshman of the Year for the indoor season.
