Stanfield Selected To Compete At NCAA Championships

DENTON (5/31/06) Brandi Stanfield will become the first North Texas triple jumper to represent the Mean Green at the NCAA National Track & Field Championships next week.
The freshman earned an at-large selection to compete for the national title after finishing eighth at the Midwest Regional meet last Saturday. Stanfield owns the nation’s fifth best long jump of the 2006 season at 44-feet-3-1/2-inches.
The indoor all-American joins some elite company, becoming the first
Stanfield already owns the top three triple jumps in school history, but is currently nursing a foot injury that has bothered the freshman for much of the season. The injury is not expected to keep her out of the national meet.

For the first time ever, CBS will carry the live broadcast of the NCAA National Championships on Saturday, June 10 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CSTV will also air a broadcast of the meet on Friday, June 9 from 10:00 p.m. to midnight.
