Zelt, Tyler Highlight Day One At The Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILE, Ark. (1/25/08) As day one of the Razorback Invitational came to a conclusion, the North Texas track and field team walked away with some better marks than last week, but knew there was still room for improvement.

A total of five Mean Green runners posted faster times Friday than they did a week ago at the Texas Tech Invite. Chi Chi Echebelem, Keisha Hornsby and Brittani Simmons all improved on their time in the 200-meter dash. Rachael Runnels, a senior from Forney, Texas, was the top finisher for the Mean Green in the 200, finishing 22nd out of 80 runners.

“With the high level of talent that we were competing against, our kids had to be at the top of their game, but I think we were probably a step below of what we’re actually capable of,” said head coach Rick Watkins. “Now that we’ve had a day to soak it all in, I hope we can come out tomorrow and be more aggressive and post some top marks.”

Toby Zelt, who earned all-conference outdoor honors last year as a junior, tied a personal best, clearing 15-09.00 to take 14th place in the pole vault in his first indoor meet of the season. Alana Tyler took home the only top five finish for North Texas. Tyler, a junior from Dallas, placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 52-04.50.

The second and final day of the Razorback Invitational will get under way tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the 3,000-meter run and will conclude with the women’s 4X400-meter relay at 5:15 p.m.
