DENTON, Texas (9/3/08) - When Athletic Director Rick Villarreal came to North Texas in 2001, he envisioned making some innovative changes in the athletic program that would set it apart from other universities in the region and nation.
One phase of that vision became a reality three years ago with the construction of the North Texas Athletic Center and football practice fields at Mean Green Village.
The Athletic Center is a state-of-the-art facility used to meet the needs of North Texas student-athletes, both personally and athletically. The facility has assisted the development of North Texas student-athletes with resources that include modern strength and conditioning, training and meeting space.
The Athletic Center is the central location for athletic administration and football offices, coaches meeting rooms, football equipment and locker room.
In this past year the T.D. Parks Hall of Fame was added to the Athletic Center, furthering its allure to alumni, fans, and recruits. Named in honor of the late Terry Don T.D.’ Parks, a standout football player for North Texas in the late 1950’s, the Hall of Fame has allowed alumni and fans as well as current students to learn more about the athletic history of North Texas. The continuous evolution of the Parks Hall of Fame will allow us to build on North Texas athletics history year after year.
The affect these venues have had on recruiting has been incredible. What is just as incredible is that in three short years this great facility has been paid off and we want to invite everyone to a join us for a very special note-burning and Hall of Fame dedication ceremony to be held at the Athletic Center on September 6, 2008 prior to the football game against Tulsa.
The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. and take place directly in front of the Athletic Center. We hope you will join us for the very special event.
