Mean Green Men Place First At Ken Garland Invitational

DENTON, Texas (9/19/09) - A second place finish by Patrick Strong coupled with top-10 finishes from Garrett Sage (7th) and Josue Nunez (9th) helped lead the Mean Green to a first place finish at the Ken Garland Invitational Saturday morning at the Eagle Point Cross-Country Course.
The Mean Green (51 points) men edged out both UT-Arlington and TCU (54 points). Strong's time of 25:55 in the 8k run was behind only Alfred Kite of Northwood (25:50). Over the past three seasons in the races Strong has competed in he is a perfect 10-for-10 as the top finisher for the men's team.
Sage and Nunez also posted solid times of 26:52 and 27:17 respectively. Matthew Peters and Michael Ortiz followed up Nunez.
Meanwhile the women's team finished fifth with 99 points. SMU (33), Baylor (44) and TCU (73) finished 1-3 respectively. Ingrid Mollenkompf (15th) and Sara Dietz (16th) were the top two finishers for the Mean Green. Sallie Anderson, Amanda Kean, Amy Alcala, Sarah Workman, Carleigh Kutac, Tara Piles, Kalie Hagood and Samantha Esslinger finished in that order.
North Texas will have a few weeks off now before returning back to action on October 2 when they host the North Texas Invitational.
