BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- No. 3 seed North Texas was eliminated from the Sun Belt tournament on Wednesday night as they were upset by hosts No. 6 Western Kentucky by a score of 3-0. Mallory Outerbridge scored twice for the Hilltoppers.
North Texas falls to 12-7-2 on the season, while Western Kentucky improves to 9-8-2.
"We ran into a real buzzsaw tonight," said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. "Their crowd seemed to energize them all game, especially behind our goal."
"I feel for our two seniors, Mandy Hall and Dani Watson, right now, but with what we have coming back and finally playing a favorable home conference schedule next year, we'll be back up top."
Mallory Outerbridge scored the first two goals for the Hilltoppers, striking in the 16th and 29th minute. Torrie Lange added a goal right before halftime off of a free kick.
North Texas out-shot Western Kentucky 17-14. Corners were even at six apiece.
The Sun Belt Tournament continues tomorrow in Bowling Green, Ky. The champion of the tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
