Well the men's 4 x 400 meter just finished up, which wraps up North Texas at the 2010 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The men's foursome of Keyth Talley, Montrell Pyorn, Darnell Greig and Reggie Hayter claimed third in 3:08.63.
Time to load up and head back North to Denton, so look for a full recap and release from me in the next few hours.
Thanks for following along with us and Go Mean Green!
Saturday, April 3, 2010 5:11 p.m.
We are close to being done her at the Texas Relays with just the men's 4 x 400 meter relay to go in a few minuets.
A couple of records to update you on, the women's 4 x 100 relay (44.76) and 4 x 200 relay (1:35.70) along with the 400 hurdles run by Roshunda Pierson (1:00.44) are all new school records.
The sprint medley run last night was also the second fastest time in school history with a time of 4:00.37.
I will have a check in after our final event here in a little bit!
Saturday, April 3, 2010 3:32 p.m.
Two more things to throw in the pot for today.
Jordan Wehr just finished his pole vault with a no height.
At the same time, Alysha Adams ran the 100- meter hurdles and did ok. She qualified with a 13.49 and finished the finals race in seventh place with a time of 13.41 seconds.
There is a guy, jumping unattached, who jumped over seven feet seven inches high in the high jump. There isn't much else I can say other than WOW.
Looking at the schedule we only have one, maybe two more races that will feature North Texas athletes, so I will be back after those come up.
Saturday, April 3, 2010, 2:18 p.m.
The women's 4 x 100 relay was just run and North Texas finished sixth in 44.76 seconds, bettering their qualifying time by nearly a second.
Texas A&M took the race with the new fastest time in the world, 42.56 seconds.
Second place was only .58 seconds ahead of North Texas.
Missy Barnes, Brittany Blaylock, Brittani Simmons and DeOna Stafford came in ranked in the top 15 in the nation and stayed with the top schools the whole way.
Jermaine Jamison is about to start the men's high jump and the Jordan Wehr will be in the pole vault which starts around 3 p.m.
I'll be back in a little while with more results and updates from Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Saturday, April 3, 2010, 1:03 p.m.
We've been at the track for a little while and we finally have our first race times for North Texas.
Roshunda Pierson was the first member of the Mean Green to run, winning the women's 400-meter hurdles invitational event.
Steven White went next in the women's 400 meter hurdles and had a bit of a rough time on the third to last hurdle.
The women's 4 x 200 meter relay just finished up as well, and they finished fourth in their heat, but 5th overall with a 1:35.70. Texas A&M won the event with a 1:31.41.
An intriguing race in which North Texas had no participants was the men's 4 x 200 relay. Mississippi State came in with the best time in the world, and Texas A&M blazed past them to set the now current best time in the world.
It was one of the best races I've ever seen.
The atmosphere here is crazy. This 20,000 seat stadium is packed and they love track and field.
Saturday, April 3, 2010 9:58 a.m.
The final day of Texas Relays is here and I'll be headed to the track here in a little bit.
The Mean Green has a few athletes competing today including a few relays. It should be a good day here in Austin before we head back to Denton after the last races.
I received a couple of questions last night and I wanted to address one of them.
Courtland wanted to know: how do you think this sets us up for later meets (including conference)?
I think competing here at the Texas Relays give our team nothing to fear. They will not find a better field of competitors for the rest of the year.
The next time they will see heats and races this packed with incredible athletes will be when the qualifiers come back here at the end of May.
I'll be back after I get to the track and get settled in. Thanks for keeping up with us so far!
Friday, April 2, 2010 9:13 p.m.
Day Two at the Texas Relays is in the book for North Texas and the only event that the Mean Green ran in the evening session brought a sixth place finish.
The women's sprint medley relay team of Missy Barnes, DeOna Stafford, Ciara Smith and Sara Dietz finished the race in 4:00.37 seconds, which was good enough for second in their heat.
A full wrap-up of the day along with event-by-event results will be posted in an hour or so when I get the results e-mailed to me.
Don't forget to send me those questions for tomorrow! Ryan.Kasmiersky@unt.edu.
Friday, April 2, 2010 6:49 p.m.
Well back at the stadium and I was bale to secure the results for the women's high jump and the women's long jump, both events that we had athletes in.
In the women's long jump, Ashley Austin nabbed a third place finish in the "B" section, jumping 5.98 meters.
The women's high jump saw Suzy Prikryl tie for fifth place, clearing a height of 1.66 meters. She ended up only one height behind the eventual winner.
The Mean Green only has one event in tonight's session and that is the women's sprint medley finals, which will take place around 8:30.
I'll be back sometime after that to update you on the finish.
Friday, April 2, 2010 12:57 p.m.
This here is DeOna Stafford taking over!!! First time at Texas Relays running for North Texas and I feel good, I didn't do as good as I wanted to in the prelims of the 100m hurdles but I am satisfied with my race.
In the prelims of the 4x1 I anchored it, boy was I nervous but everybody has jitters. I felt okay running though, handoffs could have been better. I would really like to thank Brittani Simmons and Melissa Barnes for keeping me sane even though I got caught in the 4x1 by this beast of a girl from UTEP.
SHOUTOUTS: Alysha Adams for beasting in her hurdles running a 13.49-WORK!
Melissa Barnes for putting in WORK in the 100m dash; she didn't make it to finals but she ran a good race.
Brittani Simmons for running a great 100m dash; Go Girl!
Roshunda Pierson for running her P.R. in the 400m hurdles!
Ciara Smith for running a splendid leg on the 4x4! So amazing!!!
Janesa Moore for running a great 4x4 also!
Coach Sammy aka Dabbs-Great COACH!
Goofball trainers && the bus driver! =)
Thank you for your time,
DeOna Stafford
Now Roger That!!!
Friday, April 2, 2010 12:26 p.m.
Well the morning session is over and the men's 4 x 400 relay team finished in third in the preliminaries and qualified for the finals.
Keyth Talley, Montrell Pyron, Reggie Hayter and Darnell Greig came away with a time of 3:11.38, .20 behind the second place team from Northwestern State and . 60 behind the top team from Kansas.
The women's 4 x 400 didn't have as much luck as the men's and failed to qualify for the finals. They finished 17th with a time of 3:47.47.
The team is about to head back over to the hotel and then grab some lunch. I'll be back in a little while with a wrap of the field events that took place this morning.
Friday, April 2, 2010, 11:23 a.m.
The 100 meter dash is over and North Texas did not have anyone qualify for the finals.
On the women's side, already occupying the top three spots on the Sun Belt Conference performance list, all three runners ran new fast times for the year.
Missy Barnes with an 11.71, Brittani Simmons recording an 11.75 and Brittani Blaylock with a 11.76 finished 14th 15th and 16th respectively.
Sophomore Keyth Talley ran in the last heat of the men's 100 and finished in 14th overall with a 10.56. His heat was by far the fastest of the eight with a sophomore out of ULM, Luther Ambrose, taking first overall with a 10.22.
The 4 x 400 meter relays are up before we head back to the hotel for lunch and relaxation before tonight's running events.
I'll be back in a little bit with a final update from the morning events.
Friday, April 2, 2010, 10:38 a.m.
Well been here at the track for about an hour and finally got my computer fixed. It's time to catch you guys up a little on what has been going on.
It is not a very good day here at all as of right now. Overcast dark and just has a rainy feel to it, although it has not rained yet.
They've been running for a little while now, and I can say that North Texas has its first finals qualifier of the relays in the women's 4 x 100 relay. They qualified with the 8th fastest time in the prelims and will be running tomorrow night to finish off the women's events.
The women's 100 hurdles just ran as well, with two North Texas girls running. Deona Stafford and Alysha Adams participated in that event, with Adams finishing second in her heat, .02 seconds behind graves of Oklahoma.
The 100 meter dash races are up next, and these are among the most exciting races all day. Don't blink or you may miss it.
Thursday, April 1, 2010, 7:04 p.m.
Steven White finished up his 400 meter hurdles earlier with a 53.36 second time.
White won his heat and had recorded the top time through four heats. He failed to qualify for the finals by three spots.
The freshman was in the finals going into the last heat, but five of the eight people running nabbed faster times and ousted him.
We arrived back at the hotel not to long ago and got to relax for a bit before heading to dinner here at 7:15.
From there it's a Wal-Mart trip and more relaxation at the hotel before a long days tomorrow and Saturday.
I'll be back with an update after dinner with more details on tomorrow.
Don't forget to e-mail me any questions you have! Ryan.Kasmiersky@unt.edu.
Thursday, April 1, 2010 5:07 p.m.
Freshman Roshunda Pierson ran her 400 meter hurdles heat just minutes ago and finished second in her heat going just over 1:02. She just missed out on making the final on Saturday.
Steven White is up next for the Mean Green. He will also be running the 400 meter hurdles around 5:30.
There is a fierce wind out here at Mike A. Myers stadium on UT's campus and it is definitely affecting the south half of the 400 meter hurdle runs.
When we got to the track around 2:30 the first three pole vaulters we watched had some interesting finishes.
The first one, before we even got off the bus, snapped his pole in half. The next two fell off their poles and onto the mat.
I've never seen anything like it.
Check back in a little bit for the results of the men's 400 meter hurdles featuring freshman>Steven White.
Thursday, April 1, 2010, 2:12 p.m.
Just checked in at the hotel after lunch at Chick-Fil-A and practice and I'm exhausted. 2:15 is when we are scheduled to head to the track for the first time.
Two freshman will be running tonight in the 400-hurdles for the collegiate competition,>Steven White and Roshunda Pierson.
The whole team will head out to the track to cheer them on before making our way to dinner afterwards. All-in-all we have a pretty light day. Should be done at the track around 5:45 or so.
I have to say I'm looking forward to a little relaxation before being there all day tomorrow.
Check back a little later for results of the 400 hurdles!
Thursday April 1, 2010, 11:51 a.m.
After a three hour and change bus finally arrived at a park just north of Austin for a short practice.
The bus ride down started pretty energetic and quickly turned into either nap time or watching a movie. 2012 was the first movie we watched and for never having seen tit, it was interesting.
Anchorman, one of the funniest movies in recent memory was the second one we put in.
From here we will head to lunch and then to check into the hotel. First time that we are scheduled to head to UT for the meet will be later this afternoon, with some events being run tonight.
I'll check back from the hotel here in a little bit.
Thursday, April 1, 2010, 7:56 a.m.
As I wait for the bus this morning, let's go ahead and go over some of the highlights from the distance running yesterday.
The Mean Green had two top three finishers and numerous top ten's.
The highlight had to be the men's 5000 meter run, where Matt Russ finished in third in 15:12.91 and Patrick Strong took fifth with a time of 15:24.36.
Garret Sage was the other top three finisher as he took third in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
We're scheduled to head to the track this afternoon around 2 after we get into Austin, check into the hotel and grab some lunch. I'll be back with an update from the buss here in a little bit.
Another thing we are doing this weekend is something that basketball did with Tristan Thompson. I gave junior Reggie Hayter the flip cam for the weekend and he is going to provide a behind the scenes look at the Mean Green's Texas Relay experience.
Well it's time to catch the bus so I hope to catch you guys soon! Don't forget to e-mail me any questions you have! Ryan.Kasmiersky@unt.edu
